THE STORY: The Los Angeles Clippers should think about asking the Los Angeles Lakers for a tutorial on how to hold serve at the Staples Center. The Clippers needed a late rally to defeat the woefully undermanned Houston Rockets on Saturday, giving them a chance to salvage their six-game homestand with a .500 record when the Detroit Pistons visit on Sunday. Detroit has won four of six and is coming off back-to-back 100-point games for the first time this season.
TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, FSD, FSSD
ABOUT THE PISTONS (16-28): Although Detroit ranks 28th in the league in scoring, its offense has picked up noticeably in the past month. The Pistons have cracked 100 points seven times in their last 17 games after reaching the century mark only once in the first 27. During the eight-game streak in which Detroit has gone 5-3, Rodney Stuckey is averaging 25.1 points. Guard Brandon Knight seems to be regaining his long-range touch, burying four 3-pointers in Friday’s loss at Phoenix.
ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (25-18): After scoring only two points and sleepwalking through the first half, Chris Paul came alive to rescue Los Angeles on Saturday. Paul scored 12 points in the final 2:42, including 10 straight to help the Clippers erase a six-point deficit. Paul tied a season high with five steals and finished with 23 points, matching his output in the opener of the five-game homestand. In his previous three games, he had scored a total of 39 points.
BUZZER BEATERS:
1. Nick Young, acquired from Washington at the trade deadline, could suit up Sunday but is expected to make his Clippers debut Tuesday.
2. Knight leads NBA rookies with 67 3-pointers. He needs three more to pass Lindsay Hunter for the team rookie record.

Recap Clippers vs Kings (108-100)
March 3rd, 2012
Los Angeles Clippers vs Kings (108-100) – Recap
Kings Vs Clippers Tickets for April 7th at STAPLES Center on sale now.
The Kings started off a 4 game in 5 night stretch on the wrong foot on Thursday night, losing to the Los Angeles Clippers in their only home game of the stretch. The Kings started off well, scoring 57 points on 58% from the field in the first half, but the Clippers made adjustments in the second half and controlled the game from the third quarter on.
Chris Paul led six Clippers in double figures with 22 points to go along with nine assists, as Los Angeles used a big second half to down Sacramento, 108-100, on Thursday.
Mo Williams donated 18 points with five assists, Blake Griffin added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Caron Butler contributed 13 points for the Clippers, who have won two of three.
The Clippers, of course, are becoming one of the best alley-oop teams in the league — Paul-to-Griffin is a common sight — and Paul said he’s been getting easy layups because opponents are so scared he’s going to throw a lob pass.
DeMarcus Cousins led Sacramento with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Marcus Thornton posted 18 points. Tyreke Evans also scored 18 points with six rebounds for the Kings, who saw their brief two-game winning streak come to an end.
“This is one of the top teams in the league and you have to play a perfect game,” said Kings coach Keith Smart. “I thought we played a perfect game for about five minutes here and there. Once we didn’t do that, the game got away from us.”
The two teams traded blows in the first quarter with the Clippers holding a 28-25 edge heading into the second. Los Angeles opened a 40-30 lead on the heels of eight straight points capped by a pair of free throws from Eric Bledsoe, but Sacramento stormed back with eight in a row of its own to draw back within two.
Francisco Garcia’s triple with just under five minutes on the clock knotted the game at 44, and the Kings went up by eight on back-to-back Jimmer Fredette long balls that postmarked an 11-0 run. The Clippers then scored eight straight of their own with Paul’s triple squaring it at 52.
The Clippers tallied the first eight out of the locker room to take a 65-57 lead, but again the Kings got up off the floor and stormed back to tie the game at 72-72 on Thornton’s bank shot with just over six minutes left in the stanza.
The runs continued, but the next one by the Clippers swung the game’s momentum in their direction. Randy Foye’s layup off a fastbreak capped an 11-0 burst for an 83-72 lead, and the margin stood at six points, 85-79, entering the final period.
The Clippers extend their edge out to 97-83 on the second of consecutive threes by Williams, and the Kings never got closer than their final eight- point deficit.
It was good to see Sacramento’s bench make one of their best contributions of the season, and hopefully that won’t be a one time thing. Speaking of the bench, J.J. Hickson, who played well in his 13 minutes, injured his hip on an attempted offensive rebound, falling hard to the ground. He is set to be reevaluated tomorrow and will not be with the team when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow night.

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (20-12): The Clippers have not had much luck in Sacramento, losing seven of eight and 23 of their past 26 there. “We’re going to have to play on a higher level, especially on the road now, but maybe that will help us come together more,” coach Vinny Del Negro said. The Clippers have asked super fan Clipper Darrell Bailey to drop the Clipper name, saying he has never worked for the team and has been inappropriately misrepresenting the team at events.
ABOUT THE KINGS (12-22): The Kings have found a standout rookie guard, but it isn’t Jimmer Fredette, their top pick and 10th overall. Instead, Isaiah Thomas has emerged as one of the steals of the draft. Thomas, the 60th and last pick of the draft, is averaging 19.2 points and 6.8 assists in five career starts. He needs 19 points to tie Otis Birdsong for the most points scored by a Kings rookie in his first six starts (115 points). “We needed to get out in transition and run,” Thomas said. “I’m out there trying to make the right play. I’m doing that at a pretty high level right now.”

1. Caron Butler was 1 of 10 from the field for two points and is averaging seven points on 29.8 percent shooting over the last five games.
