Bucks vs Clippers
"Fear The Deer" were the words that reverberated across the stands when the Milwaukee Bucks rocked the NBA playoffs last season. The team caught the attention of the League fans with the many changes in their lineup with some very intelligent trades.
Point guard Brandon Jennings , John Salmons, Andrew Bogut and Ersan Ilyasova thrilled the fans with their performances. They had not been in the playoff race for the last four seasons. However, their slow but steady entry into the race surprised everyone. The last time that the team displayed such solid performance was when they won the NBA League Championship Title in 1971.
The Milwaukee Bucks is now headed by John Hammond , the manager, and Scott Skiles , the head coach. They have many titles to their credit including the League title of 1971. They have also won a conference title and thirteen division titles.
The Story of the Bucks
The Bucks were founded during NBA's strategic expansion in 1968. As any other expansion team, they had to struggle the first season. The arrival of Lew Alcindor turned things around for them. The set record wins in the second season, and the team went from strength to strength with the addition of Oscar Robertson. During the same season, Lew Alcindor converted to Islam, becoming Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The bucks were unstoppable during 1969-1975 with the duo to lead them.
The next big change was the induction of new head coach Don Nelson. From 1967 to 1987 he pushed the Milwaukee Bucks to new heights. Kent Benson , Marques Johnson and Ernie Grunfeld were also acquired by the team.
However, there was an ownership change in 1985 when the Milwaukee businessman Herb Kohl bought the team and this move subsequently led to their shift to the new arena, the Bradley Centre. The franchise is still owned by Kohl, the present U.S. Senator, who has vowed to keep the Bucks in Wisconsin . He announced in 2003 that he would continue to own them, improve them and commit to the team remaining in Wisconsin . With talented players such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar , Bob Lanier , Oscar Robertson , Michael Redd and Ray Allen , the team reached great heights .
During the 1990s, Glenn Robinson and Ray Allen helped hold the team together.
In 1998, the veteran coach George Karl was hired. The Bucks also acquired Tim Thomas and Sam Cassell . With these additions, the Bucks won 52 games in the 2001 season.
