Hornets vs Clippers
The Hornets' performance was on a decline from 2000 to 2008, primarily due to the many trading moves inside the franchise. However, they managed to win their only Division title in 2008. The Hornets have been a franchise with the NBA League since 1988.
The Hornets Story
The New Orleans Hornets began their journey as a League Franchise during the 1988–89 NBA season . The team was then based in Charlotte and was called the Charlotte Hornets . They played their first fourteen seasons at the Charlotte Coliseum as their home ground.
The driving force behind the team's formation was George Shinn who did his best to bring a league team to Charlotte . His dream came true with the expansion strategy of the NBA.
The team got its name from the city, which was qualified as "a veritable nest of hornets" by a British commander due to the city's stern resistance during the revolutionary war against its occupation.
Larry Johnson , Alonzo Mourning , Muggsy Bogues and Glen Rice were the key players of the Charlotte Hornets . They qualified for the playoff three times during their stint in Charlotte - 1992–93 , 1996–97 and 1997–98 .
Relocation of the Hornets
The 2001-02 season saw the franchise relocating to New Orleans . Their early years as the New Orleans Hornets were quite good, with the team reaching the playoffs once during the 2002-03 season. The injuries sustained by the three of the Hornets - Baron Davis , Jamaal Magloire , and Jamal Mashburn - affected the team's performance, resulting in a rapid decline towards the later seasons in the year 2005.
The Katrina effect
With just three seasons in New Orleans , the Hornets had to relocate because of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina . The franchise found a temporary home in Oklahoma City . They played two seasons as New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets . They flew back to New Orleans full-time for the 2007–08 season .
Rebuilding of the Hornets
The Hornets went on a massive acquisition spree and they got forwards Craig Brackins and Quincy Pondexter , small forward Trevor Ariza , shooting guards Marco Belinelli and Willie Green , center Jason Smith and point guard Jerryd Bayless .
The team has the strength of many young players and the experience of older players such as Paul, West and Stojakovic .
