Jazz vs Clippers
Get ready for some sizzling action from the Salt Lake City team - the Utah Jazz. The only team to be among the “Big Four” sports league from Utah , their games are eagerly awaited by fans from the city.
The Utah Jazz entered their 32 nd season as a franchise with the 2010-11 season. This season has put them in the spotlight for many reasons. Their star head coach Jerry Sloan resigned in the middle of the season. Tyrone Corbin is the new head coach. They traded their leading performer Deron Williams.
They play their home games from the Energy Solutions Arena.
The Utah Jazz history
In 1974, the Utah Jazz began their role as a franchise in the League as the New Orleans Jazz. With just five seasons into the league, they relocated to Utah in 1979.
They began their career on the wrong foot and remained one of the most unsuccessful teams in the League for a decade. It was in 1984, after they completed 10 years in the League, that they were able to make a playoff appearance. Since 1984, as luck would have it, the Utah Jazz did not miss any playoffs until 2004.
The shining 80's
The Utah Jazz sizzled at the court during the 1980's. This sudden burst of performance was due to the Utah Jazz stars - John Stockton and Karl Malone . They put the team in the radar. Point guard John Stockton and power forward Karl Malone were one of the best game partnerships in the history of NBA. They remained part of the team until 2003.
1990's - All that Jazz
Jerry Sloan took on the role of the Head Coach in the 1990's. He led the team into two NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998. But each of the two times, the Utah Jazz lost to the giants Chicago Bulls who were then in their zenith with the legendary Michael Jordan leading them. So really, did any team have a chance against the Bulls?
The Jazz missed the playoffs for the next three consecutive seasons. However, they were back in action with their newest acquisition, point guard Deron Williams .
2011 for the Jazz
The 2010-11 season began well for the Jazz, the team had an undefeated preseason, and seemed to be well on their way to another winning season. But the pace did not continue. On February 2011, head coach Jerry Sloan and assistant Phil Johnson, after a loss to the Chicago Bulls. Sloan's assistant, Tyrone Corbin, became the new head coach. The team also hired former Jazz player Jeff Hornacek to be their assistant coach.
Derrick Favors and Devin Harris are the new men on the scene this season.
