Nets vs Clippers
The New Jersey Nets have a long history not just in the NBA League but also in the ABA . As a team, they date back to the year 1967, when they were established as the founding member of the American Football Association. They went by the name New Jersey Americans with their base at the Armory in Teaneck, New Jersey .
Due to some problems regarding the arena, they had to shift to New York within a year's time. With New York as their new home, the team was renamed as the New York Nets. They played their home games at the Long Island Arena and remained a franchise there until 1977. When the NBA – ABA merger happened in 1976, the Nets were among the four teams that joined the League.
Before the beginning of the 1977-78 season, they shifted base again to New Jersey , becoming the New Jersey Nets. In their new avatar, they had a very disappointing four years as they failed to record any wins.
In the 1980's the team fared better. For the 1982-83 season, Larry Brown was their Head Coach. With Brown coaching them, the Nets performed better and when he left at the end of the season, the team suffered. However, they were able to get back on their feet with a new lineup, with players like Darryl Dawkins , Otis Birdsong , Buck Williams and Michael Ray Richardson . They reached the playoffs in the 1984 season.
The late 80's were not so great. They lost two of their star players, All Star Michael Ray Richardson and star center Darryl Dawkins . The years from 1986 to ‘89 was the worst ever for the franchise, even with new and hopeful acquisitions like Chris Morris (1988) and Mookie Blaylock . But with illustrious coaches like Butch Beard, Chuck Daly and John Calipari, the 1990's proved to be better.
Jason Kidd and Vince Carter kept the Nets going in the 2000s.
Kidd joined the Nets in the 2001-02 season, a welcome relief for the team that was plagued by bad performances through the last few seasons. In the 2004-05 season, Vince Carter joined the team. The star duo kept things on a roll, pushing the performance of the team up by several notches. Some of the best performances of the team were during the seasons from 2004 until 2008, with these two players.
Tragedy struck again in 2008-2009 season, when Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson left the team. Deron Williams who joined 2009 offers great promise for the team.
