The Pacers were established in 1967. They were initially a part of the American Basketball Association and moved to NBA in 1976. The Pacers started off great, with a three Championship win.
During their first seven years, the Pacers played from the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum, which is now the Pepsi Coliseum . Then they moved to the new Market Square Arena in downtown Indianapolis. The Pacers now play their home games from the Conseco Fieldhouse .
The team had some great players in its roster. Jimmy Ray , Mel Daniels , George McGinnis , Bob Netolicky , Rick Mount , Roger Brown etc. are a few names worth mentioning. Just into their second season, the Pacers managed to sign the celebrity Head Coach Bob "Slick" Leonard .
Reggie Mileer who entered the team in 1987 led the Pacers to a few bright seasons. He stayed on till 2003. They reached the NBA finals in 2000. They reached the playoffs in 2006 and then had a dry spell for four years beginning in 2007.
In 2011, Frank Vogel was appointed the interim head coach and they made it to the playoffs again.
