Raptors vs Clippers
Get ready for some Canadian action in the NBA League, the Toronto Raptors are here.
The Raptors are a relatively young team, they were established as a franchise only in 1995. They are now the only Canadian team in the NBA since the Grizzlies shifted to Memphis , Tennessee in 2001 to become the Memphis Grizzlies .
As a young team, they have struggled for most of their seasons so far. But there are also some brilliant players in the team such as Vince Carter, Chris Bosh , Morris Peterson and Andrea Bargnani . With Bryan Colangelo as the General Manager and Sam Mitchell as the Head Coach, and also with the revamping of the team roster for the 2006–07 season, the Raptors managed to qualify for their first playoff berth in five years and also won their first division title.
They advanced to the playoffs again in the following season. The Raptors wanted to persuade Bosh to stay on even after his contract expired, so the team had a complete roster overhaul in the 2009–10 season. However, they did not make the playoffs and Bosh left the team to sign with the Miami Heat in July 2010.
Toronto Raptors franchise
The Raptors became an official franchise of the NBA League as part of the League's expansion tactics. The team was founded in 1995 as a franchise in Canada . They were based in Toronto , playing their home games at the Sky dome during their early years. In 1999, the Air Canada Center became their new home.
When they began, just as any new team, they had some severe setbacks. The raptors struggled to reach the playoffs until 1998. With the acquisition of Vince carter in 1998, the team's fortunes changed for the better. There was no stopping them for a few seasons and they made it to the NBA Playoffs in the three consecutive seasons from 2000 to 2002. In 2001, it was Carter's performance which lead the Toronto Raptors to their playoff series win. However, there was no progress in the next two seasons from 2002 to 2004.
In 2004, Vince Carter was traded to the New Jersey Nets for Chris Bosh. The team set all their hopes on Bosh and he did not disappoint. Though they had to struggle for a bit again, the combination of Bosh, Bryan Colangelo as General Manager and Sam Mitchell as the new head coach, brought them a better season in 2006–07, and the team won their first division title.
Bosh's contract has now ended and he is with Miami Heat. What will the new season bring for the Toronto Raptors?
