The story of the Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder joined the NBA League as Seattle Supersonics in the year 1967. They remained the Supersonics until 2008 when they were relocated. The move was because of s dispute between the team owner Clay Bennett and the lawmakers in Seattle .
As the Seattle Supersonics, they had an illustrious record. The Thunder qualified for the NBA Playoffs 22 times. They won the division title six times. They also won the NBA Championship in 1979.
Their relocation of the Thunder was made official in 2008. However, the sale was in progress as early as 2006, when the Supersonics were sold to a group of Oklahoma City investors under the leadership of Clay Bennett. This move was preplanned and pre approved by the NBA, the only condition being securing a new arena for the team. Even with Bennett's many efforts throughout 2007, nothing really happened and this led to a dispute between him and the Seattle city officials. It was then decided that the team would make Oklahoma their home once their period of lease with the Kev Arena ends.
Thus they became the Oklahoma City Thunder only in 2008. The next season, 2009-2010, they qualified for the playoff. They continued their great form and won their first division title as the Thunder in the 2010-2011 season.
Just before the 2010 playoffs ended, the Thunder announced that they will be keeping Coach Scott Books through the 2011-2012 season. Later, they also announced that they are signing their General Manager Sam Presti to a multi-year deal.
